Title: Your custom/Modded Tamagotchis

Blue Haired Beauty - May 28, 2007 03:08 AM (GMT)
I would like to add a new little section to my website.
Any custom/Modded Tamagotchis.
I have wanted to do this for a while but have been kind of busy and somewhat lazy about getting it going.

So if any of you out there would like to contribute to Tamenagerie.com's Modded Tamagotchi section, please post a nice picture in this topic.

I'll start with one I have. I have started my own mods but have not completed them.

Glow in the dark screen and decals on ChocoSilver Entama.

Another amazing mod I received as a gift ☺ This used to be the Pink Frill Entama. Talk about a major improvement.

This picture of a modded Akai was taken off YahooJP auctions months ago.
You get the idea. If you've played around and done fun stuff to your tamas, I'd love to see it.

gyara - May 28, 2007 08:43 AM (GMT)
Yay! Is this for all kinds of customization/modification, or mostly just stuff done with the shell? I've made new keychain-things with beads and/or cord for nearly all of mine. ^^;

The glow in the dark screen backing is great. Where do you get the stuff to do that? I don't think I've seen sheets of glow in the dark stuff anywhere.

I'm not a big fan of the covering-stuff-in-plastic-rhinestones trend, but that Pokéball Akai looks pretty darn impressive.

This is my one heavily-customized V4 so far:

It's made to stand up, even though it's not standing there. I wish I'd changed the buttons, but I didn't have a good color to switch them with, and now the shell is stuck shut with paint/glue so there's no opening it all the way back up.
It's actually very purple, not blue, but I can't get it to show up right in photos.

cyann - May 28, 2007 04:31 PM (GMT)
My mods seem pretty tame by comparison, but here's my V3 (originally the blue circles design).
I removed the paint, changed the buttons, and added stickers and beads.

Here is my customization/modification of my Tamagotchi V4 Pink Hearts!

My camera isn't working so I had to scan, I put a cloth in the back.

Your custom Pokéball Akai looks wonderful! I like shiny ^_^

Each of your tamagotchis looks great, I love unique! It stands out much more than plain.

PS: Sorry the picture was blurry.

Thank you gyara, Tamalova123 and again Cyann for posting those pix for me. I found your email the other day and thought D'oh! I need to get this going again! :O:

Mighty impressive mod there gyara. Talk about imagination and it just works so well!
Then the simple elegance of Cyann's.

I can't tell what was done to Tamalova123's.
Added accessories? Please forgive me. I am not familiar with what that one looked like out of the pacakge.

Thanks for the pix people. It is much appreciated and I gladly await for more pix. :hito:

The glow in the dark background, I am not sure where exactly that stuff came from. Obviously it's just a paper or plastic type glow in the dark thing but I don't understand myself what exactly it is. Then to have patterns on the screen as well.
I have not taken it apart to get a good look.
Those were modded and gifted to me so it's kind of a mystery to me too.

gyara - May 29, 2007 06:28 PM (GMT)
Thank you. ^^; I intend to try customizing more in the future, but for now, I don't want to do anything to the Tamas I already have (and am not quite ready to fight with the model spraypaints again). I should look for some cheap secondhand ones on eBay though, I think.

Ohh, you aren't the one who obtained the glow in the dark stuff in the first place. Hm. I'll have to look for something like that...I'd really love to do the same for a background in one of mine (as long as nobody would be offended by my copying that idea ^^; ).
I need to find something more reflective, at least, if I ever replace another screen backing. That one is so dark.

I saw a really neat Tamagotchi mod on DeviantArt a while back, actually. You know those collars and bracelets with big metal spikes on them? Hot Topic type stuff. Someone had taken the spikes off one, and glued them on a Tamagotchi. Possibly a bit impractical (and dangerous, heh), but it looked darn cool.

Still wondering, does making my own keychains count if I haven't done anything to the rest of the Tamagotchi?

I made this:

It's not a real tamagotchi, I just massively edited a glow in the dark v4 with Macromedia
Fireworks.

Gyara, I've been thinking about taking my black G2 apart (again) and trying to do a pirate-themed Tama. I think I've got some white buttons from a Tama angel, and it'd be pretty easy to add a skull and crossbones someplace. Maybe the skull above and bones intersecting with the buttons somehow. Then maybe the inner "crack" could be red. Or white. Dunno.

tamagotchiangle - May 29, 2007 10:14 PM (GMT)
Wow!
. Hidatchi ., They should make that a real tamagotchi!
If you could, you should send it to Bandai.
:)

Ooh! Good idea. You should, that'd look cool.

Sorry BHB for veering slightly off topic, but I've just discovered the perfect way to get paint off a tamagotchi to a perfectly smooth clean finish in minutes!

I was just changing my electric toothbrush's head as it needed a new one, when I had a flash of inspiration

I put back the old head, gave it a dab of tooth polish, and took to one of my tama's with it. Within about 3 minutes of using the electric toothbrush, the tama was completely clear of any paint and still had a lovely smooth shell :haha:

Now I have to decide how I'm going to modify it! (and keep the old toothbrush head in a safe place for future use as a tamagotchi paint stripper!)

cyann - May 30, 2007 02:10 PM (GMT)
Excellent find, Spudi! Was it a sonic toothbrush?

And grr, I can't find my white buttons. I *know* I saved them along with some other spare Tama parts, but it's been a number of years so I wonder if somebody thought they were trash and got rid of them.

cami123200 - May 30, 2007 07:46 PM (GMT)
Hi,

I was wondering, where do you get other tamagotchi buttons???

cyann - May 30, 2007 08:37 PM (GMT)
From other Tamagotchis. :)

cami123200 - May 30, 2007 09:04 PM (GMT)
oh, okay. I'm currently trying to do the screen on my tama. The stupid screws in the chip won't come out!!! any tricks?

cyann - May 30, 2007 09:16 PM (GMT)
Jeweler's screwdrivers, and a light touch. Don't force the screws or they'll crossthread and you will never get them out.

cami123200 - May 30, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)
thanks cyann. those screws just won't seem to come out!!!

cami123200 - May 30, 2007 09:29 PM (GMT)
The screws won't come out!! HELLLP!!!

Juls - May 30, 2007 10:34 PM (GMT)
You have to push very hard on the screwdriver while turning it gently.
I [sometimes] do have trouble getting the screws out.. but my dad is good at getting them out. d:
Keep trying & you'll eventually get it! ;D
I've never done anything to my Tama's.. but those are beautiful! When I get a chance, I may do it to one or two of them. ^^

I didn't do anything to the paint because I was too afrad of what might happen  . What I did do was add a baby girl tamagotchi sticker (The V1 baby girl perhaps? I'm too lazy to go and check myself with the charts, heh) and a tamagotchi anntena topper with a matching Mametchi keychain. I haven't found anyone where I live with a tamagotchi like mine ^^ It is special! LOL. I consider it a custom tamagotchi, do any of you agree? ;)

:haha:

I would class it as an accessorized tamagotchi- meaning you have added items which were manufactured by Ban-dai, for exactly that purpose :haha:

I would class a custom/modded tama as being 'unique' to the extent that it has been irreversibly changed from the original design.

Yes, that is very true too. Either way it is still different and unique (in my opinion) :D LOL! I might though switch the buttons to a light pink color, depends. How do you switch the buttons, I'm quite curious to know how before I do so. Also, is there any possible danger to your tamagotchi during the process? Thank you! :haha:

I am modding a Mori No Tamagotchi. A project I started months ago! I'll finish that soon ;) Hopefully in one week.

kuyerjudd - June 13, 2007 01:41 PM (GMT)
Err... I customized my Asian v4, it was a Jinsei Swimming Design. I removed the paint and added pics to it. As you can see its shiny, I asked my friend to do it for me LOL ;) anyways, I hope you guys don't mind me using pics from the charts :D

I'm curious though, where did you find those wings and feet? They remind me of the Tama Angels, was it an accessory sold in those days perhaps?

Ra,

I didn't find them. I made them from epoxy putty, which a lot of people use for modifying/customizing models and plastic figures and such, as well as repair-type things.

I'm not quite sure why people keep saying I found them. They're not exactly masterful classical sculpture, they're pretty simple. Does something about me suggest that I'm totally incompetent at sculpting basic shapes? ;_;

buba - June 16, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
on the contrary gyara, people keep telling you that you found them somewhere because they look too good to be a home-made job!

They look really professional! Congratulations :)

*something tells me you were a tad ironic in your last post*

cyann - June 16, 2007 01:38 AM (GMT)
Nope, something about your work suggests that it's professionally done. :) It really is wonderful, Gyara.

-Ra- - June 16, 2007 07:20 AM (GMT)
People can't believe you made 'em because you're like the heir of Michelangelo the sculptor! :D Fantastic job on them hun!

Ra,

gyara - July 2, 2007 02:02 AM (GMT)
Um, thanks? *^^*

I just finished another customized Tamagotchi, for a trade with Cyann.

I'd been looking for a P1 Tamagotchi with the same design as my first ever Tama (Pink with light pink and white spirals), since mine's been damaged (It was a choice between cutting through part of the battery cover to get it open, or never playing with it again, and I chose cutting through the battery cover). It's a semi-rare design, I think, and doesn't show up too often.
Cyann found one on eBay, and bid on it for me when I wasn't able to at the time. She won it at the very last second (l33t eBay skillz!), and suggested a trade.
So, I customized the boring extra P1 I had.
Before:user posted image

After:user posted image

I'm a bit more satisfied with this one than the last one, but I still had a lot of trouble with the paint.
I feel like I should be trying to come up with more techniques and ideas, instead of just adding wings etc. and repainting, but I've only done two so far. Practice is good, anyway.

I should be able to mail it tomorrow. I hope Cyann's happy with it when it arrives. ^^

Doesn't anyone else have some more modded Tamagotchis? There have to be some more adventurous people here.

Puffogotchi - July 2, 2007 02:25 AM (GMT)
Gyara, That is just amazing how you can transform a tamagotchi that is so plain and not even pretty into something eye-popping, I wish I could do those things!

Where do you get the clay you use?
Can the clay come off easily?

:kura:

cyann - July 2, 2007 02:26 AM (GMT)
My request to Gyara was, "can you make it into a dragon?"

I think it's gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful work.

Er, I don't know if my Monet paintjob counts as a mod, but I'll post it up if you like.

Thanks. ^^

It's actually epoxy putty. It's used for various types of repairs, but it's also used by some people for various hobby type things because it can be modeled like clay, carved, sanded, and added onto, it's strong/hard, and it sets without needing to be fired or baked.

It's very sticky though, and messy, and very capable of ruining clothes and whatever it gets on that it isn't supposed to. And while it's nontoxic once it's hardened, I don't know what the chemicals might be doing to me when I work with it before that. XD It's meant to bond strongly to things, but usually whatever I'm adding onto has a smooth surface that it doesn't 'grab' well. So I add the piece on, let it set, and then it breaks off easily. Then I finish it and glue it back on.

The particular kind I got is from a hardware store, not a hobby store. It's not the easiest thing to work with.
I think I may want to try switching to this: http://www.avesstudio.com/Products/Apoxie_...xie_sculpt.html
Basically the same type of material, but meant specifically for modeling rather than patching holes in things. I've heard that it's pretty good, and it's probably easier to work with.

Post it, Cyann! ^^

cyann - July 2, 2007 04:38 AM (GMT)
Heh, ok. To preface it, my Tamagotchis always seem to lose their painted designs. I don't know whether I handle them too much, or I use too much lotion, or I rub them when I'm not thinking about it, like a worry stone. Anyway I noticed that the diamonds on my beaded V4 were starting to rub away. I actually *liked* the diamonds, so I thought I'd protect them from rubbing off further by carefully applying a coat of clear nail polish. I'd done that to a couple of plain Tamas, and used a buffer to get rid of any stray brush marks. Well apparently the paint used to decorate Tamagotchis (not the color of the plastic, the painted decorations) is nail-polish soluble. The diamonds smeared like I was running a finger through wet paint. The more I tried not to smear the paint, the more it smeared. I was so upset--it was a mess!

After I calmed down I decided I may as well make lemonade. I always have acrylic paint around, so I got out some white and some cobalt blue and a small brush, and dabbed the two colors all over the case, making big brush marks and sometimes overlapping and blending. Then I put a heavy coat of clear nail polish, making sure to make brush marks. It's still the same colors, it's just very painterly now.

Ra says it looks like a Monet, now, which pleases me a lot. :)

It pales awfully compared to yours, Gyara, but there it is. :D

Puffogotchi - July 2, 2007 02:35 PM (GMT)
Gyara- Very cool stuff, but it seems like maybe there could be a better clay or molding material to use on plastic. Like that one clay you use and it's very soft and like rubber, it can't really stick to anything, but I don't know the name of it. Can the epoxy get painted? I see you have different colors on the dragon one.

Cyann- I heard that nail polish is not a good idea to put on your tamagotchi, but it seems like your not having too much trouble with it. I guess that as long as you take your tama apart before painting it it's alright. And that looks really glittery and shiny and pretty anyways!

Why would I want something rubbery that wouldn't stick? o_O :?:

If you mean that weird crayola clay, that's fun to play with, but it breaks easily, it's very soft, it can't be carved or sanded, and it has a weird texture. It's meant for little kids to play around with, not for hobbyists to customize models and figures with, and I couldn't have gotten the results I wanted with it at all.

It was meant to be a permanent modification to the Tamagotchi that would be durable and not break off.

Yes, it can be painted. I think it's usually meant to be, in fact.

WarOmnimon - July 2, 2007 06:51 PM (GMT)
Oh snap, Gyara. Your customs do look professional. I love the dragon custom!

I love the Pokeball Akai that BHB showed off from YahooJP, as well.

Puffogotchi - July 2, 2007 06:54 PM (GMT)
The clay that I am reffering to is very soft and it dries soft as well, it ma ybe cheap but it's great for making stands for tamagotchi to make it stay up. The clay is very soft and great to work with, and when it dries you can glue it to anything essentially. Though I'm quite sure it's not as great as the clay you work with anyways.

:kura:

gyara - July 2, 2007 07:11 PM (GMT)
I think what you're talking about is called Crayola Model Magic. It feels light and fluffy, almost, and dries sort of squishy/flexible. Hm. Yeah, that type of clay would be good for making stands and holders. The softness when it's dried would probably be a plus, there. No scratching anything. I just really wouldn't recommend using it to to add onto stuff.

Cyann, that looks great! It's definitely very impressionist-looking, and you matched the colors perfectly. I'm sorry you had that trouble with the nail polish, though. Still, I like your paint job better than the diamonds.

ShimaShimatchi - July 3, 2007 05:59 PM (GMT)
ive decided to eat away at the paint, and paint the underscreen. itl take a few days but i think ill get it. But my wires for button useage and sound fell of, i have them, but how shuldi stick them back on?
