Title: Devilgotchi / Tamagotchi Monster Review
Description: WO reviews a vintage Tamagotchi
WarOmnimon - May 25, 2009 11:55 PM (GMT)
After my recent run through with the Tamagotchi Monster cell phone game, I figured I would write a review comparing and contrasting it to what I've seen and heard about the Devilgotchi, as well as act as a general purpose review for those who do not have either the keychain or the game.
I'll start with the actual gameplay. There are seven activities, just as there are on most vintage Tamas...
Status Checks on age, Hungry, Happy / Friend, and DP / MP. As is obvious, feeding your little troublemaker will increase their Hungry meter, playing the game or feeding them candy will increase their Friend meter. The MP is a number you want to keep low, unless you are trying to meet requirements for a secret character.
Food There are two choices, pie and candy. Pie is the primary meal for these guys (You'll notice that the pie is colored a dark grey in the cell phone game), and candy can be used to increase happiness.
Game Trust me, this game is much easier than it sounds. Your Tamagotchi Monster goes across the bottom of the screen at a steady pace - hit A / 1 to drop a star on the left side of the screen, and hit B / 2 to drop a star on the right side. You are supposed to time it so that he catches all four. Catching three will also help increase happiness, but a perfect score gives you two points of happiness instead of one.
Flush Another obvious function, this flushes the toilet when they leave droppings. The cell phone game colors the droppings almost black, a contrast to the mobile Angel's gold droppings.
Angel Trust me, you'll be using this function a lot. When the screen inverts in color, your Monster is causing trouble - use this button to stop him and decrease his MP. Higher MP results in more troublemaking. The times this happens include, but are not limited to...
-He throws the pie back up the screen when you go to feed him.
-He won't let you check on his Status.
-He fake sleeps during the game.
-He won't let you flush the toilet.
Hand At the end of the day, I guess the Monsters are stand-up kind of Tamas. At certain points, they will extend their hand with the attention icon lit up - use the Hand function to shake hands and decrease their MP.
Candle This has the same function as the light bulb on standard Tamas. Use this function to turn off the lights when they go to sleep. They turn the lights on when they wake up.
Attention This icon lights up automatically when your Monster needs something - go check that Status meter!
It's much easier to manage the mobile Monster than the keychain Devilgotchi for one reason - at night, the Devilgotchi will actually set off fireworks and thunderstorms to try and wake you up. The Monster does this too, but only when the application is open.
The Monster is also the first Tama with the close-up function that is seen on the more modern Tamas, but it only happens at certain times of the day and it works a bit differently. At these times, you will see a close-up of the Monster on the right side of the screen, and on the left side there is a flashing speeh bubble with some hieroglyph-type writing. I'm not sure if this happens with every character, but if the photos of Bakedeviltchi and King Deviltchi that Luthien posted a while ago are any indication, each character has a different set of hieroglyphs.
The differences in the Devilgotchi and the Monster are as follows...
-The most obvious difference between the two is that the characters and such are in full color on the mobile Monster.
-Another obvious difference - on the Devilgotchi, the "egg screen" shows Obaketchi and a grave. On the Monster, a puff of smoke flashes across the screen and you'll occasionally see the bat from the Tamagotchi Angel.
-The flush icon is different between the two.
...and that's pretty much it. No character changes or anything - all 12 characters are the same on both.
As far as the characters, there are some based on previous characters (Devilmametchi and Zukideviltchi come to mind), while most of the cast is completely new. The characters definitely look like they fit the role of "Tama Troublemakers," and include a crow (Devildori), a pumpkin faced bat (Kabodeviltchi), and a little imp (Devilkotchi), among others - a total of 9 non-secret characters. The choices for secret characters are nice, too. King Deviltchi definitely looks like the Tamagotchi version of Devimon from the Digimon series, the Twin Devils are quite the handful (And actually wear different colors), and the Kuridevil looks like something you'd be more likely to see in the Tamagotchi Angel.
I'm going to give the Tamagotchi Monster, as far as vintage Tamas go, a 5 out of 5. What keeps a breeder such as myself coming back to raise these troublemakers so often is all the little details, such as the hieroglyph code I mentioned earlier. This is definitely a Tama I'll be raising in full every year for Halloween from now on. :)

Good to hear and thank you for comparing them for everyone. How can one get the Cell phone monster program? Did you mean that you will run the Devilgotchi or the cell phone game every Halloween? If you mean devilgotchi then awesome. I've been running mine every Halloween since I've had one. :kabo: Halloween is 'new year' in my religion and it's soo much fun running my favorite tamagotchi to celebrate it. :boo:

I run the Monster at Halloween as I do not have the actual Devilgotchi pet myself. Considering the prices that the Devilgotchis were going for on eBay at one point, I'm glad they released the Monster. :haha:
The Monster is available on most mobile service providers in the US and Europe, I'm not sure on the pricing though as I don't remember how much I paid for it. If you do not have a Devilgotchi but have a cell phone, it's worth every penny. :)

I tried to download it on my cell but the file wasn't able to download. I guess my cell is too old.

| It is a free download. |
If you typed "Tamagotchi Monster mobile download" in google, chances are you downloaded a pirated one. It's the same game, it's just free and not giving any royalties to Bandai.
It's just like downloading free music. You should buy the CD. Whereas with this, you should buy it on an online game shop.

tamagotchi_freak_06 - I second what !G-G! said. This kind of discussion (Software piracy and such) isn't allowed here at TZ anyway, so try not to bring it up again. I'll go delete posts if I have to, and I don't want to do that.

Please understand I did not know anything about this game until you mentioned it here. I just googled it and that's what came up. Do not be angry with me I did not know it was an official Bandai Release, ok? And besides it didn't work.
WarOmnimon: You can delete this post and the other posts because it is off topic. Thanks
