Title: Japanese tamagotchis
Description: Which should I get?
Codfish22 - June 30, 2009 10:51 PM (GMT)
I am going to buy a japanese tamagotchi but I don't know which version I should buy? I was looking at an angelgotchi on eBay that was a good price but, I don't know if I should get a different version. What kind should I get?

I am planning on getting 6 different types of Japanese Tamagotchi before the end of the year, and heaps more in the future.
Angelgotchi is a must.
Ocean, Forest?
KeiTai or KeiTai Akai, EnTama, UraTama, Tamago-chu are other good ones.

I take it from the fact this is posted in the Vintage section that you are only looking at Vintage models. Your decision depends really on what you are looking for.
Japanese P1 are no different that English language P1 apart from the secret character. Japanese P2 comes in 2 different versions, the first with no difference to English language versions apart from the secret character but the second has a different regular Adult as well.
Angelgotchi is a nice Tamagotchi to start or add to a Vintage collection with, it's fairly easy to look after and has nice characters. My criticism would be that it can take a lot of neglect to get different characters.
The Umino or Ocean is a good Tamagotchi however unless you have unlimited time to devote to it then you won't get very far (even if you do you still run the risk of it dying a lot!).
The Morino or "Forest" Tamagotchi is quite simple to run and look after, the annoying thing with this Tamagotchi is the "screen saver" which switches to an overhead view after a couple of seconds, which means unless you press a button then you can't see your Tamagotchi moving around.
The Mothra is a nice easy Tamagotchi, simple to run and look after and nice characters.
The TamaOtch is quite a difficult Tamagotchi to raise, it uses a lot of text but doesn't neccesarily require knowledge of Japanese to raise. It can be annoying at times, when the only way to silence her is to complete training, but she keeps getting it wrong.

I think R_T did an awesome job explaining some of the more known Japanese vintage imports. I think if you're just starting out and want something you can't get overseas yet is actually fun to play with I would say go for a Morino or Forest Tamagotchi. They're fairly similar in the amount of attention they need to a P1 or P2 and aren't nearly as demanding or frustrating as the Umino or Tamaotch. Also the Mothra is a very simplistic tama with very interesting characters. I wouldn't personally recommend someone the Caveman Tama as it is very demanding. The name escapes me, but basically it seems slightly less demanding the the Umino.
Another possible consideration is the Osu/Mesu. The downsides with that is it's only really worthwhile with one of each and if you don't like running multiple pets at a time you might not enjoy it as much. Also, it takes a bit of patience to get some of the characters as it takes multiple breeding sessions before you will get them. Very adorable characters though!

Thanks Atashi, I had forgotten to mention the Osutchi and Mesutchi, I always forget that they are Vintage! :haha: They are great Tamas but as you say only worth running if you are going to do both at once.
The Caveman is the Genjintchi (genjin meaning primitive man), I can't comment on that one personally as I don't have one (yet!). :)

I've got a Genjintchi. It's nowhere near as bad as the Ocean as far as the demanding/frustrating factor goes, but it's needy enough that it's hard for me to run it with other pets.
And I'll second atashi's Morino recommendation. They're just really great Tamas, and they're my favorite of the vintage Tamas. Their life cycles are a bit different from other Tamas, and I like the switch, plus the characters are all really cute.

I really enjoy the Mothra and the Genjintchi (caveman) I enjoy the Devils and Oceans. I've gotten the ocean down to a science and that makes it fun to play with. It took me a very long time & patience to get my method down on the ocean. You really can't go wrong with a P1/Gen1 or P2/Gen2. Good luck in deciding. They are all wonderful tamas.

Thanks R_T for jolting my memory! I seriously was having a bit of a 'brain fart' yesterday and while I have it in my drawer and could of easily gotten up to check I was like nah I'm sure either someone will jump up and know or they would know what I'm talking about.
The Genjitch isn't quite as needy, but it is a bugabear when you're busy in real life and want something fairly simple to look after. I actually got the Genjitch to its adult form...something I can't say for the Umino. I've tried, but I also have a very limited patience and usually end up killing it. :argh:

It also isn't a 'vintage' model.

Thanks guys! I decided to get the angelgotchi and I am going to buy a tamasuku. But what is the difference between the first and second version of the tamasuku?

The differences between a TamaSuku 1 & 2 are in this topic:

Maybe you should buy a Morino. I don't own one sadly, but I'm going to buy one tomorrow-hopefully. And based on reviews by trustworthy people I heard it's a really nice pet and tama

Great recommendations, guys. I don't actually own any Japanese/Vintage Tamagotchi (For now. When I move out of home, eBay will be like my day on the town. =]) but from what I've heard from people who do have them, I would have to agree with everyone one your recommendations. Also, the Devilgotch isn't a bad Tamagotchi, but it's far too expensive, as is the Yasashii. =]
:topic: Ooh, and Real_Three, if you were looking into a Genjitch anytime soon I looked all over eBay under different names, and this is the best deal I could find. It's $37, with #5 Shipping.
