Welcome to the TamaOtch Hatch! Let's take a journey down memory lane and hatch dear old Tama-O!

This is an open to public hatch for anyone with a TamaOtch, if you've got one, you're more than welcome to join. Please be sure to read the rules thoroughly to make sure this hatch runs as smooth and efficiently as possible. If you aren't a participant, this doesn't mean that you can't comment or read through as long as your comments are relevant and on the subject, thanks. The list of participants so far are: tamagothi freak, Blue Haired Beauty, Atashi and I (Ra).

Participants need to hatch a TamaOtch whithin the time frame of their own local time on the 29th. Just make sure it isn't any later than that. Each participant's first post must include a photograph of their tamagotchi as proof that they're just starting it for this hatch. Hatchers finish posting here when their tamagotchi turns 15 yrs old.

Here are also two little signature buttons if you'd like to place it in your siggy:

Let the hatching, begin! Hip-Hip-Huzzah!

Ra,

tamagotchi_freak_06 - July 29, 2009 08:48 PM (GMT)
Here are a few videos and a couple pictures. I remembered I hatched a white egg last time so I re-started it and hatched the stripe egg this time.

Right after it hatched.

Then it grew legs.

It keeps beeping and showing this message.

I gave it a Fan Letter and that message went away. It came back and I took her to auditions and filled her meter and she quit beeping at me.

Great beginning to the hatch, tamagotchi_freak! Just for your own information, the message says "Ohayou Gozaimasu" which means "Good Morning" in English.
I can already tell this is going to be a great hatch!

-Ra- - July 29, 2009 10:48 PM (GMT)
Hello fellow hatchers! I finally made it! ^_^ Sorry for the rather late entry, but I've been experiencing a rather horrid weather over here, and I temporarily lost my internet connection when a particularly strong lighting struck some place quite close. All's well now, so I'm able to finally make my entry post! :)

SO! Where to begin? Well, here is my lovely TamaOtch, which has never been opened before. This will be my first time running one of these, so it's all a new learning experience for me. I have also picked out a purple case which nicely compliments the purple border of my Tamao. =)

user posted image

I have also opted for using one of my new Tamagotchi Cradles. I made this one some time last week, and this seems like a great opportunity to make use of it.

user posted image

Right, on with the log then! :3 I pulled out the tab around an hour ago (I've been cropping pictures in the meanwhile, haha) and was greeted by a loud high-pitched beeping and three eggs. I entered the time, chose the middle white egg, and began watching the egg bob around.

user posted image

Unlike the modern versions, the vintage tamas take 5 minutes to hatch out of the egg. And while I was patiently awaiting for my new egg to hatch, I couldn't help but wonder how a 'human' character was going to come out of an egg. I suppose it's best not to ask questions and just roll with it, haha. ^_^

user posted image

So the egg finally hatched after a long wait (and aching fingers, waiting with the heavy camera, ready to snatch the cracking shot) and I got Karatchi, which immediately after sprouted tiny little legs and evolved into Ashi-tchi. If I'm not mistaken, it literally means "foot" anyway.

user posted image

So let us take a look at the Health Meter then, shall we? The selections seem to consist of the pretty standard options. Age, Weight, Discipline, Hunger and Happiness.

user posted image

However, there is one extra bar, which is devoted the skills of Training. This also has to do with the "Good Morning" message which constantly flashes across the screen. To be able to satisfy this bar, and stop TamaO from flashing the text across the screen, you must go to the 4th icon, which is shaped like a fan, and win one of the games. This will fill up up to 3 of her training bars, and she will quiet down. *Thank you Real_Three for having discovered this! It used to drive me nuts!*

user posted image

The food items seem pretty standard also. They are rice bowl and some sort of candy bar. She seems happy with them, so what ever works for dear TamaO, works for me. ^_^

user posted image

More on the training games. The training games seem to have 3 selections. First is an ad-lib game, the second is a dancing game, and the third is an acting game.

user posted image

In the first one, you choose expressions between a confused face and an aware face. You do this by press the A and B buttons. If she is able to mimic you perfectly, you tab the side of the shell and speak to her, and she gets happy. If she fails, you press A, and she gets sad but moves on to the next round. In the second one, you choose between left and right, and in the third one, you choose between happy and sad faces. The winning principle remains the same.

Anyway, that's all for now!

Ra,

atashi - July 29, 2009 10:53 PM (GMT)
Ok I've been looking forward to this hatch! I'm excited that someone from our forums was finally able to figure out how to make this little *bad word* happy. Anyone who has one of these knows just how obnoxious they can be if you don't keep your meters up!

Well I thought I'd start off just showing you a picture before it was started up:
user posted image

I'm using my current read - The Full Metal Alchemist Novel (Land of Sand) as a background. It was just the first thing I found laying around. :)

user posted image

Well there's the selection for the 3 eggs there. I put the time in at exactly 1:32pm and selected the spotted egg because for some unknown reason it was calling my name.

user posted image

Here's a picture of the spotted egg after I picked it. I waited patiently for the little guy to hatch and when he did he was a little round ball with no legs pictured here:

And a couple seconds later he grew some legs:

I think I'm going to name my little guy Herby. Sounds like a cute and fitting name. So far I've been really good about keeping up the upkeep on him. His stats deplete somewhat quick right now, and unlike a 'normal' tama he doesn't seem to go through that short baby phase.

I'm looking forward to reading everyone else's entry!

tamagotchi_freak_06 - July 30, 2009 12:13 AM (GMT)
Ra I didn't know that you had never run a Tama-O. I hope you enjoy the hatch.

Little update. I noticed that she flashes the message also when she needs discipline. So I have disciplined her once and filled her hearts and training meter.

Here she is putting on a little show.

I'm here!
I did not get pictures of the beginning when I hatched because I got a call and had to go in to the shop! >_< I did get the stripe egg.

I just got a pictutre of emmm.. I guess her first performance?

I forgot how high maintenance this thing seems to be. > : [
Maybe I just need to get used to her.

I know the hearts are at zero but she still keeps performing. What a little trooper she is.
I wish she would stop so I can take care of her.

tamagotchi_freak_06 - July 30, 2009 01:11 AM (GMT)
Yay BHB. Welcome. I love your pic. This is going to be exciting to see what everyone gets since we all chose each of the different eggs.

*******************************************************

Woke up this morning and she had a skull beside her but her meters were full. Perhaps she will change later today?

:D She just changed. Here she is.

I had to pause my TamaO while I was at work, so mine hasn't evolved yet. But I did spot the sick animation. It's rather cute! You give tamao a little dose of medicine from some small vial, then she gets very upset. You then have to tap the side of the shell to give her a 'virtual' hug to cheer her up. ^_^

Ra,

-Ra- - July 31, 2009 12:25 AM (GMT)
My last entry for tonight. Tamao evolved into a Mochimotchi towards the evening. Her new form sort of reminds me of a sake gourd. So far, I've been very pleased with this vintage tama. So pleasant and lovely. I also noticed that around half an hour ago, she began practicing on stage. However, her performance was short lived when she suddenly poo'd herself. I don't know what happened there, perhaps stage-fright. I'm hoping she will do better tomorrow.

user posted image

That's all for now, au revoir!

Ra,

atashi - July 31, 2009 02:00 AM (GMT)
*laughs at Ra's TamaO Pooing itself on stage* I guess it had a little stage fright?

I'm going to have to apologize for not taking any pictures, but to be honest today has been very hectic and by the time I realized it Herby was off sleeping. He's ironically turned into a little sun (I say this as I've been rather stressed as of late due to IRL issues.) and hopefully that's a sign of things to come or something of the sort. I don't think he did his stand up tonight, or at least I didn't notice him doing his stand up at 7pm. To be honest I have been giving him a fair dose of neglect, and a couple times tonight while I was finishing up work he got shoved in a drawer because he started beeping and shouting "Ohaiyou Gozaimasu". :P

Ra - I didn't know you could tap it and give it a little happiness after using the medicine! I always wondered why it seemed to take forever for him to react. I will have to try it!

Blue Haired Beauty - July 31, 2009 04:20 PM (GMT)
I didn't know that about the medicine either! Thanks for that tidbit.
I had to pause TamaO yesterday because we were off doing car stuff. (Trying to buy a new car) I should have just brought her with! Had I known we'd be there for about 4 hours, I would have.
So this morning, I just picked up where I left off yesterday.

I am starting to like her more. I never liked TamaO much but now I have the hang of it. She's growing on me.

Oh, what is that letter for on the 3rd food choice?

tamagotchi_freak_06 - July 31, 2009 06:30 PM (GMT)
The letter is for when she is sulking and won't do anything. It's a 'Fan letter'

Nothing new with my Tama-O

Blue Haired Beauty - July 31, 2009 07:01 PM (GMT)
Here we go!
I got this thing:

Oh, I see you found a chart Mothie. :) I was just about to give you one. But here it is anyway:

user posted image

Nothing so far from my little Tamao. I just literally this minute walked in the door from work, and unpaused her. So I'm guessing some time towards the late evening, she'll be evolving. :)

Ra,

-Ra- - July 31, 2009 08:45 PM (GMT)
I've hit a bit of a snag, which is troubling me. Tamao isn't like any other tama I've ever played with when it comes to time. When I pause her, and come back from work to unpause her once more, I usually have the hardest time trying to accomplish this feat! In Tamao, it doesn't matter if you set the time to a time where she should be awake or asleep, she doesn't care. You have to set it to like 8:59PM and wait a minute for her to fall asleep, or vice versa.

But for the past 2 hrs, I've been struggling with her to try and wake her from her paused sleep, but she wouldn't budge until just now. I tried 5:59AM, 6:59AM, 7:59AM and even 8:59AM. She wouldn't wake up in any of those time frames! It was driving me insane. Until, in a last moment of desperation, I set the clock to 9:59AM, and she finally woke up. What the heck was all this about?? O_O Jeez ..

Ra,

tamagotchi_freak_06 - August 1, 2009 12:50 AM (GMT)
Is anyone else having trouble getting tama-o to loose weight? I play games and go to rehersals but she still won't loose weight. It's not too high, so it's not a problem. She got sick earlier but still hasn't changed. She's performing now. :D

ButterflyKisses - August 1, 2009 01:11 AM (GMT)
*sneaks in*

I'm really glad you guys are doing a TamaOtch hatch! I never played with mine and I am learning a lot about it from your entries, so I wanted to thank you all! Keep up the awesome job.

Woke this morning to find.......

user posted image

I've had this one before. Maybe the next character I get will be different. I will try neglect this time.

I think I may run her again and try for the sun, then the ball, and then the little girl adult, and hopefully the tamaotch character.

-Ra- - August 1, 2009 09:22 PM (GMT)
I've got a similar picture. I woke up this morning to find the same exact, half character. I don't really understand it, why would a character clearly meant as 'neglect' be gained through good care? I took perfect care of my tamao, yet I still ended up with this fellow. Well, I've been feeling sort of down about it, and so has she. Next I will either end up with a Tabakotchi or Tamaotchi (blue ball one, not the actress). Personally, I'm rooting for Tabakotchi, she just reminds me of my eccentric aunt, who can never be spotted without a cigarette in her hand.

Ra,

WarOmnimon - August 1, 2009 09:54 PM (GMT)
Maybe there's more to getting certain characters than one may think on these, it would be funny to see Ra get his wish and get a Tabakotchi. :haha:

Anyway, I actually like the Kakuretchi character - it looks like she's always trying her best to hide, which would be true to her name, but can't manage to get the job done. I'm glad to be reading about the Tamaotchi, the whole acting thing is what really got me in. I might order one at some point, but it isn't a top priority for me right now.

Good luck on the remainder of the hatch, hopefully everyone gets the characters they want. :)

Blue Haired Beauty - August 1, 2009 10:39 PM (GMT)
I got that half thing too so no need for a picture!

-Ra- - August 2, 2009 11:15 PM (GMT)
Well a brief update from my dear Tamao for today. She's still a Kakuretchi for now, and her practice bar has begun emptying out faster than before. Another thing I've noticed is, for some unknown reason, the 'discipline' bar also empties out on the TamaOtch. Something that doesn't make much sense to me, but oh well. I woke up a little later than usual this morning, and found my Tamao already awake and beeping.

However, the unusual thing is, the usual "good morning" message wasn't there. Instead, some other text was flashing on the screen and my tamao looked upset. I then remembered reading something about Tamao sometimes 'forgetting' who you are, and you having to have to remind her by tapping the shell. So I tapped the shell, and she suddenly remembered who I was with a cheery welcome. But the trouble wasn't over yet, b/c then a moment later, I happened to look at my screen, and saw Tamao had wandered off, leaving behind a perfectly vacant screen.

I thought somehow the game had reset itself or perhaps the batteries had died, but it turned out to be Tamao running away from home. I pressed A and tapped the side of the shell and she came back. So all's well now, and hopefully will stay that way. I've had enough adventure for one day, and so has she. :)

Ra,

tamagotchi_freak_06 - August 2, 2009 11:37 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the update Ra. It's very interesting. I knew that her discipline meter always empties and it's really very difficult to get it filled.

I've been letting my tama-o meters empty and then filling only one or two and letting them empty again. I'm really trying for the Tamaotchi ball character.

user posted image

Something I forgot to add... I also like how you can 'flush' after she's gone to sleep. There are many times on other tamas where I wish I could do that.

tamagotchi_freak_06 - August 3, 2009 12:49 PM (GMT)
Woke this morning to the different message, beeping and a skull. Tapped the side and gave her medicine, then I filled her hearts and training meter. Hopefully she'll change later?

atashi - August 3, 2009 02:45 PM (GMT)
Wow you can flush while they're sleeping? I didn't know!! The more I'm playing with this version, the more I'm appreciating it. At first, I just couldn't get it to stop beeping and flashing the "Ohaiyo" screen and I didn't understand how the rehearsals worked so the longest I've successfully played with mine was for about 10mins before I had a major headache and wanted to give up!

I'm sorry for not blogging alongside you guys the past couple of days. Life has been drastically changing for me and I haven't had the drive to keep up with the blogging, and even though I have gone through phases of complete neglect of him, Herby has still kept on ticking. Most mornings I've woken up to find him with 3-4 poos and him sleeping with the light on. I feel like he's quite the trooper to be put through that and not totally given up. Every morning I've had to tap the side of the shell to get him to come back but he seems to be the most forgiving type. Something I've also noticed is you have to flush it once for every poop on the screen. I can't remember if this is the same on other models for certain, but I think it's just the one flush for all poos. Herbie stayed the sun for the day after he changed then he's been this half-guy since then. I feel bad for you Ra if you're constantly keeping up with him and that's all you're getting! I haven't been nearly as diligent and I fully expected a poor care character!

tamagotchi_freak_06 - August 4, 2009 06:26 PM (GMT)
Today Tama-O did not wake up until 1:00 PM. When she did she promptly changed into Tabakotchi. I've had her before :( I will be sure to run this tama again soon and try my method mentioned in a previous post.

user posted image

I hope that Ra and the others won't mind me ending my part of the hatch today. :?: Perhaps if I had a different character I would run her until she's 15 but with it being the same 'ol character I'd rather not.

Thanks for the lovely hatch. I can't wait to see what characters each of you got.

-Ra- - August 4, 2009 08:48 PM (GMT)
Wow, Sarah am I glad to have popped in here to have a read or what! I was SO frustrated and on the verge of resetting my tamaotch! I could not wake her up for the life of me! Then I came in here and read that you said yours woke up at 1PM, so I just now set mine to 1PM too and she woke up. So weird! I have never had a time who had so many odd time problems like the Tamaotch does. For the most of the day, I had to keep looking at her asleep, as I couldn't bring her to wake up no matter what I tried.

user posted image

Anyway, now that she's awake, at least I got the character I wanted. Tabakotchi totally reminds me of my aunt, which makes me laugh a lot. I think it's so neat thats she's got a cigarette in her hand, it definitely makes the Tamaotch feel like a tama intended for adults, which pleases me.

user posted image

I think like Sarah, I too will come to an end with my posts in this hatch. Had I had one of the adults which would turn into a special character, I would have continued, but as it stands, this is it, so I don't see any reason to go on posting one more week about the same character. Over all, I would like to thank everyone for having participated. If it wasn't for this hatch, I never would have started up my Tamaotch. It definitely helped me to bring it out of the cobwebs. However, over all I think Tamaotch is at the bottom of my favorites list. I would give it 4 out of 10. It is one of the most neediest and annoying ones I have ever had the misfortune to run.

I know that sounds awful, but it's true. Its animations leave much to be desired, it has only ONE loud beeping sound. No variations on this sound what so ever. The discipline bar actually EMPTIES as fast as you can try to fill it, and after a while the practice bar seems like a futile attempt to try and fill back up. Every 15 minutes, the "full" practice bar empties itself. And it's really hard to try and fill it back up again, b/c you don't always win the practice game. And if you 'lose', your practice bar 'drains' so you have to start from the beginning again. But at least now I know what's what with this tama, and it's safe to say, it will remain in its package for a long time, lol.

Ra,

Blue Haired Beauty - August 4, 2009 09:52 PM (GMT)
Mine turned in to that smoking thing too. I did get pictures but no need to post them as Ra posted his. :P

It's nice to be at the end of this. I'm tired of that thing yelling at me all the time.
Time to tab up this diva and move on.

tamagotchi_freak_06 - August 5, 2009 01:58 AM (GMT)
LOL it sounds like we all got tired of her quickly. I'm looking forward to the Ocean hatch. Although I'm trading tama-O for a much needier ocean, at least there's more to do with it. Thank you all, it was fun.

-Ra- - August 5, 2009 02:56 AM (GMT)
Yeah, TamaOtch has been irritatingly needy and difficult. For those who don't own a TamaOtch, think of it like the Angelgoch's last days before it leaves. Yes, it gets THAT annoying, but 24/7. Good luck on your Ocean hatch Sarah, I'll be lurking around that topic. :) Before I put the tab back in the TamaOtch, I thought I'd take picture of its remaining two animations. Here they are:

Well guys, I for one am happy that the hatch is short lived and that you've decided to tab already as I have too. I'm in the process of moving though, so she has been neglected a ton and I thought I deserved Tabakotchi. I got her too and I thought it was hilarious that she had a cigarette in hand. Reminds me of the pictures of the Pokewan that BHB has - it smokes when you neglect it. I want a Pokewan in a bad way now as I think it's hilarious. I've yet to see one on Ebay though. :(

One thing I've noticed is that although it's extremely needy, it seems impossible to kill! I've neglected the thing constantly and for 3 or 4 nights she fell asleep in a pile of 4 poops and sick to boot. Kind of funny.

Anyways...back to packing. And the Tamaotch is one of my least favorites. Along with the Tamagotchi Ocean and Genjitch. They're just all way too needy for my likes. I like a Tamagotchi which isn't quite as fast on depleting the bars. It's still a welcomed addition for any Tamagotchi collector.
