My P2 "Martin" just will not evolve into an adult. He got sick hours ago. I was wondering, does sleep mode count as pause time? [because I put him on sleep mode the whole day yesterday]

Yes, the sleep trick will stun their growth. I found that out the hard way with my Devilgotchi. You're probably 24 hrs behind, just be patient. :)
