Title: Tama Ocean
Description: American Vs Japanese
thebreat - December 6, 2009 06:37 AM (GMT)
I've looked around TZ to see if anyone has answered this to no avail, so I hope I'm not missing it somewhere.
Are there any major differences between the American and Japanese Tamagotchi Oceans? I'm not a casual collector, so I want both, of course, but the American ones are so expensive. I was just wondering if there was a difference to make it worth the money.

No, aside from the shell designs and a few graphic differences such as the death screen being a submarine in the American one and the beginning egg being a black one instead of white, there are no differences. The functionality remains identical.
Ra,

Yup! Just like Ra said. ;)
I'd go with the Japanese one first--much easier to find and oodles less expensive, as I'm sure you've noticed, and it's just as fun! Of course, if you want an American Ocean, too, by all means, get one! But I'd still recommend getting a Japanese Tama Ocean ASAP, just so you get a chance to try it out--it's fun as well as frustrating, and it's so addicting! I think every place I've looked has referenced the Umi no Hakken!/Tamagotchi Ocean as by far the hardest to keep alive. (Alas... similar to the idea of fish in real life, isn't it? You never really know...) Of course, this just makes you want to keep trying again! (And again, and again, and again...)
I guess all this ranting is just me recommending you get SOME kind of Tama Ocean quickly so you can start playing with the irritating and equally endearing little guy! ---> :kura: See? How cute is he? (This is as far as I usually get--the TODDLER stage... *grumble*)

LOL, too true evie. I'm totally addicted to them. One year I spent soo many months playing with the oceans trying over and over again to get the secret character and other characters. It is just frustrating & fun enough to make you want to play it again.

Hmm... Um, Ra? What about the secret character? Can you still get Ningyotchi? I know the rules to get one, but the weight says 10g... is that 10lbs on the American Ocean?
tamagotchi_freak_06 - December 6, 2009 05:51 PM (GMT)
Yes it's the same, 10 on both, regardless of the grams or pounds. I've proven this many times.

Okay, great.
Thanks, Sarah. :)

I was just thinking the same thing :haha:
Too bad I have finals still and don't have time to try to get the stuck screws out of mine, not to mention take care of the neediest tama I've ever raised!

Haha... Yeah, tell me about it! You'd have time to get it past the baby stage, admire it a little, and put the tab back in.
Only, Ra would say that "if you think the Ocean is bad, the TamaO will drive you insane." :haha: I still don't believe that anything can be needier than the Ocean, though; I'd have to SEE it to.

Wow! I've never heard that there was a harder tam than the Ocean! Actually, I haven't heard all that much about the TamaO anyway...I'll keep the ocean!! :P

Tama-O sure is a pain, just read the Tama-O hatch logs. I'm interested in running my ocean again, perhaps after my Santa.

I'm running my Ocean right now. Maybe I'll hatch with you? (This one only needed
2 doses of medicine as a baby, meaning it might actually make it past toddlerhood! It's 2 years old right now... cross your fingers for me! :haha:)
Here she is!

Ah... so cute when they're not beeping at you and getting attacked by polar bears... ^__^;
tamagotchi_freak_06 - December 18, 2009 03:47 PM (GMT)
*crosses fingers for you* I will let you know when the santa run is over and we can ocean hatch then :?:

I might want to hatch with you guys. My first ocean is coming. Hoping to get it next week. I hope I can handle as many tamas as I'm going to take on this Christmas!!

I know you plan on hatching your Angel; those aren't too bad--at least not until they get into their teens. They become the neediest creatures in the universe when they get old. 0__o
But the Ocean will require constant carrying in your pocket or purse, and constant checking on. Just like raising real fish--they can be really frail. But if you can get one past the toddler stage, you're usually good to go! (That probably sounds discouraging, but these Oceans really CAN be hard to take care of, even when you DO take them with you everywhere.)

The old tamas are really hard to take care of when they get old. I've been running a P2 trying to make it to at least 23. She is 22, so tomorrow I will hit my goal. I don't know if the P2's are as needy as the oceans when they get old, but her empty hearts have been coming faster ever since she was 16. I feel like I can handle anything after this!
