Title: P2 Series 1 and 2
Description: Which is which?

thebreat - March 3, 2010 04:21 AM (GMT)
I was wondering if anyone knew which Japanese P2s are series 1 and which are series 2? I tried to find it somewhere, but I'm not seeing it.

chitchi - March 3, 2010 04:40 AM (GMT)
You mean shell-wise? I'm not sure anyone's compiled a list yet :x Though that sounds like it would be incredibly useful.

But the egg that shows up can tell you the difference in series

Yeah, I know the egg difference, but I was looking to buy one of each, and I'm not sure which ones to get so I don't buy two of the same type.

kfhkjdfh wait no hang on

[edits]

God I must be tired if I'm suddenly posting p1/p2 differences..

I feel like the only way we'd know if they're series 1 or 2 is if they turn on the tama.

evie_00 - March 3, 2010 05:18 AM (GMT)
Wait, wait, wait! This book I have has some pics of both... let me get a pic of it real quick...

Be back in a sec...

EDIT: Okay, back... LOL, Bri. XD

Okay, I have this pic, and I didn't have enough motivation to figure out if it seperated the two pages into "new" and "old" Tamas until now--but I looked up "new" in the dictionary, and the first Kanji in that set of four on the left page does indeed mean "new," and the copyright on the book is 1996-1997, character sets including both P1 and P2! :D

So here you are: On the left are some P2s; on the right are some P1s. (Sorry the image is kinda shoddy--the quality in the book wasn't that great to begin with.)

Hope this helps you! :)

Evie

RE-EDIT: Oh, geez--I didn't know there was a series one and two to the P2! Wow... what's the difference? Sorry... I didn't see that part. :(

You can stop that now. :haha:

Gaaaah, those are only p1/p2 differences

Hang on, I'm going to take the batteries out of my p2 and try them in all the new ones I just got. There's GOTTA be some different series in there.

Yeah, I just noticed. (Doh. I just remembered the difference between the S1 and S2. Don't answer that earlier question... Yeah, it's late, chitchi. Very late. :P )

I'm not sure those are necessarily P1s and P2s there, though... I just assumed they were, but I should really look up the rest of those Kanji and see. There's more than just "new" to that, anyway.

Evie

chitchi - March 3, 2010 05:55 AM (GMT)
Nah, they are. I just got the ones on those pages you just showed, and can confirm that what you said is right :haha:

Now is time to inspect the series!

thebreat - March 3, 2010 05:57 AM (GMT)
This is turning out to be pretty difficult! lol!

evie_00 - March 3, 2010 06:07 AM (GMT)
Man, I can't find ANYTHING about them--one page was keeping up with new shell designs for p2s released in Australia/UK/US, but didn't say anything about Japan...

Ugh. This is gonna bug me now.

...Well, the yellow w/ orange border does say "new color" by it, whereas none of the others say anything about being "new." Could that be a series 2? Hmm...

Evie

chitchi - March 3, 2010 06:08 AM (GMT)
Nah, this is fun! I feel like we're discovering new things

These are the japanese p2 tamas that I currently own.

Blue with spaceship: series 2
Clear green with blue buttons: series 1
White with blue decals: series 1
Red with white writing: series 2

Wow, the person I got these from really knew what they were doing.

Note to self: invest in size zero screwdriver
I've never been so thankful that Bandai switched to the single, larger screws :P

evie_00 - March 3, 2010 06:10 AM (GMT)
Nice, chitchi. I'll have to get a hold of some original Japanese Tamas someday...

Oh, just had a breakthrough! The blue one with Mametchi in a spaceship--it's specifically named "Discover New Species!" or something like that; think it could be a S2? EDIT: It could also be an S1, I guess... but something about it strikes me as being S2--it's already a G2/P2, so why say "Discover New Species!" unless there was something different about it? Hmm. Who knows.

Evie

chitchi - March 3, 2010 06:13 AM (GMT)
The blue one? lol I love the old Mametchi

Yeah, definitely a series 2. It gave me a spotted egg

Oh, I mean the one from the picture I posted--I've seen it on eBay and I know that's what it's called. Mametchi's actually in the corner on that one... it looks like... Hashitamatchi up in the spaceship on top? I dunno... they always use that character. :haha:

And I love old Mametchi, too! So cute... and square. :)

Evie

chitchi - March 3, 2010 06:25 AM (GMT)
OH ahaha I knew that.

I can't say for sure about that one, since even after I compared my two series, I can't find any exterior differences. Bah.

BTW Evie, the difference between the series 1 and 2 is just one or two different characters in the growth patterns and secret character.
Like, the s1 has Poochitchi, and the s2 has Nyatchi; s1 secret character is Sekitoritchi (haha, you should know him!), and s2 secret character is Charitchi.

... yeah, I didn't see you edit that saying not to tell you orz

thebreat - March 3, 2010 06:53 AM (GMT)
Wow, Chitchi. That really helps. I was actually eyeballing that blue one with the little spaceship.

-Ra- - March 3, 2010 07:05 AM (GMT)
The blue one with the mimitchi spaceship design is my favorite one. :)

Anyway, this is the only other web spot where I could find some pictures of the shells for you guys to look at:

http://tamagotch.channel.or.jp/tamagotch/

Click on the double egg picture, it will bring up a page with all the vintage tamagotchis and their shells.

Ra,

chitchi - March 3, 2010 07:30 AM (GMT)
Ahhhhh! Look look look, they're organized by series!

p1
p1 (special limited gold and silver)
p2 series 1
p1 new colors
p2 series 2
english series
angel
etc

Evie, I bet that "Discover New Species!" slogan is specifically for the p2!

thebreat - March 3, 2010 08:50 AM (GMT)
Ah! That makes sense! Thanks Ra, chitchi, and Evie! I can make an informed purchase now!

sureq - March 3, 2010 09:20 AM (GMT)
Wow I too had no idea p2 had a series one and two! I'm glad I saw this.

SlowAndSteady - March 3, 2010 10:14 AM (GMT)
As a side question, where did you get hold of those Tama-armors? I've been using everything from vacuum bags to keep my P1 being scratched.

And speaking of P1s, did anyone notice having looseish plastic screen on theirs? Mine moves a bit when I move it from the side, noticed this when I was applying screen protectors for the thing.

It's brain surgery I tell you.

The Tamagotchi cases? They're rarely sold on their own anymore--or else you just never see them before someone else grabs them--but you can sometimes find a used, without-package Tama for sale with a case. I got my Umino used, and that's how I also got my first case, a green one. Just eBay it--though I can't guarantee you'll find any for a while; you'll have to be on the lookout. They might be kind of expensive, too--as far as a case goes, anyway.

And a "loose screen?" Hmm. I've never heard of such a thing. Did you get this P1 used? It's possible to open it up and look at it, but even then, I don't know if there's anything you can do about it. I'm not an experienced Tama-surgeon.

Evie

Got my Yellow-Orange clock pattern of a auction in here, didn't come in original package but it was unused, came with original pink instruction page with 90ish aroma all over it, I haven't seen that color pattern on the 12-3-6-9 yet, but it seems to be unique to Yurop.

My bets would be on, that after ten years something or the glue holding the plastic screen securely got loose, and now moves roughly 0.5mm in all directions whenever pressure is applied, and this comes with snap, possibly hitting the case.

You can't really expect a 10 year old product to be in tip-top shape, really. I was surprised that new batteries it's the brightest tama I own, I could even see what I am doing in low-light situations.

chitchi - March 3, 2010 04:17 PM (GMT)
That is one thing I really like about the P1 and P2 I find myself constantly comparing against the modern ones-- the screen is really, really crisp and easy to see.

Also ditto on what Evie said. I've seen them up for sale once on ebay, and they were gone later that day. Now there's a highly sought-after item.

tamagotchi_freak_06 - March 3, 2010 04:26 PM (GMT)
Breat, I have a growth book that has pictures of the shells and the characters. I will dig it up for you and post a photo. It's different from evies photo, these are actually series one and series two.

On one side it shows Poochitchi and the other Nyotchi (spelling) and the 2 different secret characters.

Thanks a lot, TF!

I feel like I'm totally prepared for a purchase now!

Thanks Sarah! This helps me too!
(Spelling class) Pochitchi and Nyatchi. Nya is the Japanese word for meow.

I almost didn't notice this, but after clicking on the double egg picture, if you click on the pictures of Oyajitchi or Bill in the upper right, it shows two more pages of shells. One is called "Rare" and the other "World". Pretty neat!

Try not to bump really old topics please. Also, if you look up 10 posts, you will see that I had posted the exact same thing you just have.
