Title: stripped screws
chitchi - March 3, 2010 04:44 PM (GMT)
I went and took all the dead batteries out of my tamas last night, and hit a problem.
My Osu/Mesu pair do NOT want to let go of their screws.
I fought with Mesu enough that hers finally came undone, but I've partically stripped one of her screws in the process. The OSU though, I couldn't seem to get a grip of his at ALL. Now he has stripped screws. I don't know what to do...
Any suggestions?

How badly the screws are stripped, something you couldn't get a hold of magnetic screwdriver?
You could try getting hold of it with tweezers or try applying pressure and keep steady grip on the screwdriver.
I only managed to get flat round screw off a used GigaPet which I disposed later, was using a small superglue cast with a metal rod equal size that of the screw, however this might damage the plastic if you are not careful, or make a small crosshead screw cast on the stripped screw, this is easy by using a hot glue gun which I used, however on larger IE V5 size screws.
Other than that, I couldn't think of any idea that would be safe for the shell of your tama.

I just have problems getting any grip on the screws at all. Now that I really look at it, they don't look bad, it think it has more to do with them being shallow? I don't know.

You could take the tama to a jewellers, and they would safely remove the screws for you, and replace them with new ones. :)
I hate that the vintage tamas have those teeny-tiny screws, they're so awkward.

Ohhh, what a good idea! I hadn't even considered that.
The idea of getting new screws is extremely appealing, I won't lie.

Augh I know it. And there's two of them to deal with.

Be sure to use the best one possible, if the screws are stripped enough or they do not have the screws avaible (A very likely scenario, at least around here) a clocksmith is also very likely place to go.

what would you guys advise as far as stripped screws that you managed getting out - but are scared to put them back in??
My tama angel came with iffy screws (which i hadnt realized until it got here).

I would ask for a jeweller or a clocksmith for a replacement screws, they are pretty much the only places that could have such tiny and old screws, some countries don't even use them as stantard for eletronics anymore.
