Yes. When I first got my MusicStar (in December 2008), I tried it. Here's what it said:

P.S. Since someone will ask, I'll answer it now. To get to ROM Test, press and hold all three buttons on the front as you press the Reset button on the back. Danger: I believe doing this completely erases all character data on your Tamagotchi - resetting it back to factory state. So, I suggest if you want to do this, do it before you hatch it.
