If your Tamagotchi model isn't listed above and you're unsure which size battery your Tamagotchi takes, find the section in its Instruction Manual with the battery replacement illustration. The size and quantity of batteries you require are usually within the Japanese text near it. Even if you can't read Japanese you can still find out which batteries you need, by examining characters near numbers in the text.

In the below instruction manual excerpts, I've underlined the battery information.

Example 1

Quantity: "2" The Japanese character that follows it indicates the "2" refers to a quantity.
Battery type: "LR44" The five characters preceding it make the phrase "batandenchi" which means button-cell battery.

Example 2

Battery type: "CR2032" The five characters preceding it make the phrase "koindenchi" which means coin-cell battery.
Quantity: "1" The Japanese character that follows it indicates the "1" refers to a quantity.

Example 3

Battery type: "4" The Japanese character preceding it, roughly means "form". The three characters following it make the word kandenchi which means dry cell battery. A Japanese form 4 battery is the same as an American AAA-size battery.
Quantity: "2" The Japanese character that follows it indicates the "2" refers to a quantity. Note: Japanese uses different words for counting, depending on the items being counted. It's because of this that the character indicating quantity of batteries in this example is different from the character indicating quantity of button-/coin-cell batteries in the first two examples.

Example 4

Battery type: "3" The Japanese character preceding it, roughly means "form". The three characters following it make the word kandenchi which means dry cell battery. A Japanese form 3 battery is the same as an American AA-size battery.
Quantity: "2" The Japanese character that follows it indicates the "2" refers to a quantity.
