The Digimon v-pet was released by Bandai after the succes of Tamagotchi. It works like a battling tamagotchi and it is targeted towards boys. It is a square shape ,and comes in many different colors. Versions 1-5 were released in Japan and also released in english by Bandai Asia.Only version 1 was released in America. A rare version 6 was also released by Bandai Asia. It pops up on Ebay so when you find it buy it right away because you don't know when another one may show up. I will go through the icons and basic functions and give you as much infomation as I can about the v-pets.

The buttons are simple. The top one is A, the middle one is B, and the bottem one is C. They work the same way as the Tamagotchi.

First, before you start you must set them time. Use the A button to set the hour and the B button to set the minute. Once you're done you see an egg and you must wait untill it hatches. If it doesn't hatch for about 15 minutes, reset it. If it still doesn't hatch, something must be wrong with it. You can also replace the batteries just in case.

Now we are moving on to the icons.

Status Meter icon: This is where you check on your Digimon. The first screen it shows you how old and how much your Digimon weights. The second screen is the hungry hearts. It works the same as a Tamagotchi. If you guess the next screen is happy hearts, you are wrong. It is strenght. To increase strenght you must have a succesful training or to feed it protein. The next screen is the DP gauge. DP is needed to battle and train. If the DP runs out you can not engage in battle and train your Digimon. To refill it's DP it must get a full 8 hours of sleep. The DP is considered energy on the english versions. The last screen is the win ratio. It determines the percntage of win and loses in battle.

Meat icon: This is where the food is for your Digimon. The first one is meat to feed your Digimon, and increase it's hungry hearts. The next one is protein. Only use this is you are desprate to get it's strenght up or if you are in a hurry. The protein will shorten your Digimon's life span, and it has a 5% chance of getting sick. The protein is considered vitaman in the english releases.

Man and Punching Bag icon: This is where you train you Digimon. There is a power gauge and you must get it to full power for it to count as a succesful training. Succesful trainings make your Digimon stronger and more likely win in battle. This also determines what your Digimon will evolve into. the training gets harder as your digimon grows older.

Men Wrestling icon: This is where you connect to battle other people's Digimon. The stronger the Digimon the more likley it is going to win. Do this often to increase it's win ratio. You can connect to any other Digimon v-pet or Digivices with the same connector.

Poop icon: This is what you use to clean up your Digimon's messes. It works the same as a Tamagotchi except you can't catch it on the toilet. If it has 8 poops on the screen your Digimon will get sick.

Light bulb icon: This is where you turn the lights off for your Digimon. If you don't tunr the lights off for the little guy within 20 minutes then it counted as a care mistake.

Bandage icon:This is where you go to heal your Digimon if it is sick or is injured from battle. Sometimes a may refuse it. Just keep trying untill it lets you heal it. If you keep it sick for too long it will die.

Shounting icon: This lights up when your Digimon calls you. if you don't take care of it in time it is counted as a care mistake.

Other things you should know:

1. Care mistakes and trainig determine what your Digimon evolves into.

2.Even if your Digimon is strong and has a certain number of care mistakes that is needed for it to evolve into Perfect(Ultimate) it may not evolve at all. It is random.

3.The last stage, Ultimate(Mega) is not on the orignal v-pets.

4. When your Digimon dies it shows a computer and how old your Digimon was on the screen.

5.There is no pause feature but you can simulate it by going into the time screen and hit the A and C buttons. It will say set and when you unppause it you must set the correct time.

I hope this guide helped you out. If you have any questions you can PM me and I will answer them as soon as I can. Thanks for reading! :D

I always thought you needed two Digimon or else they're not any fun. Is that true?

You need two Digimon in order to battle another one. It increases your win ratio. This only concerns most of the older v-pets. "Some" of the new ones have battles in them, but not all. As for the Digivices they are more centered around the animes they are in so they are really not that much of a v-pet and they have a storyline in them.

It's indeed more fun with two. But like Stopioh said, many of the newer models such as the Pendulum X, Accel, and the Savers/Data Squad Digivices have battles built in.

In the case of the Savers ones, there are exclusive items and characters you can only get by connecting, such as the Leo Cap on the Digivice iC 10x. And the Accel has a special character (Chaosmon) you can only obtain if you have two different versions of the Accel and DNA Digivolve/Jogress the main characters of those two versions. I still have to get another version of the Accel so I can raise one.

BTW, Stopioh, love the new avatar!

If you are referring to Gabumon as your most raised Child / Rookie / third form (Not counting the egg), you have a version 2 v-pet. They're extremely hard to come by, I've been wanting to get one since they were first announced just to raise an Angemon.

You may want to look into buying the new Digivice Data Link or the soon to be released Digivice Data Link Mega Burst (Which was previously rumored to have been cancelled) - they have much in common with the Tamagotchi Connections.
